Memorial Service

Always one to think ahead, Bev planned her entire memorial service -- down to the hymns sung and the psalms read.

The service was at the First United Methodist Church, which she had been an active member of for six years. The pastor, Debbie Pitney, gave a warm, endearing description of Bev and her life that encapsulated her well. Friends and family took turns talking about Bev and the impact she had had on their lives.

Afterwards, the church's women's circle hosted a reception.

Bev touched so many people, in all areas of her life. Attending the service were people from her stitchery group, her cancer support groups, her water aerobics class, from the Bach Festival where she volunteered, her neighbors, her caregivers, her best friend from California, friends of her kids... not to mention
all the people from the congregation and the church choir in which she sang.

Everyone who knew Bev had a special fondness for her. She will always be remembered.

There are a lot of lessons I’ve learned from Bev. Don’t put off living your dreams. Never give up on yourself. And don’t throw anything away unless it smells bad. But the biggest lesson I’ve learned from Bev is about giving. Whatever you give, you’ll get back more. Even when it feels like you’re so drained there’s nothing left to give, the giving itself is quietly replenishing you. It’s building up this part of you you didn’t even know about. And it’s not till later that you realize what you got.
