Habitat for Humanity Women Build Project

History: Women Build 1996

The first Women Build project for the Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity affiliate took place in 1996. It started with an energetic group of women and a public meeting at the 5th Street Market. Over 200 volunteers signed up, and the project (a house in the Eugene Bethel area for a single mother and her three kids) was built almost completely by women.

After the house's completion, there was a dress-up party to celebrate -- women-only (although one woman's husband came in drag).
