Lions in Regent ParkOur Second Day in London

We started the day with breakfast from the grocery store and lattes from a nearby Starbucks. We were headed to the bus station when we saw an entrance to Regents Park. The park is huge, and what started as a quick peek turned into a morning's adventure. The weather was beautiful, and the park was full of Saturday strollers with dogs and kids. The fall leaves were gorgeous. We ate our grocery store picnic on a park bench and enjoyed the scenery.

We bought day passes for the city bus and did a bit of touring from upper decks. What a great way to see London. We ended up near Liverpool, and we walked to the Geffrey House museum, which shows rooms set up in typical décor for every era from the 1600s to now. Very interesting.

Kate in the parkAfter a brief rest in the hotel, we set out for some Halloween adventure. The moon was full and the weather was pleasant. We bussed to Picadilly Circus (an absolute madhouse of tourists!!!) and walked to Soho. Soho, which had been such a quiet, quaint neighborhood the morning before was now a wild scene of costumes and debauchery. It was like a huge street party, and we watched it from a sidewalk café, eating fish and chips.

witches on a busSunday morning, we woke up to heavy rain, and we felt so lucky that we'd had relatively good weather for our two days of touring. We were also grateful that our new friend from Africa had insisted on not only arranging a car from the airport to the hotel, but also back again. So instead of dragging our luggage through the rain to the Tube, we got to step outside the hotel to where a Mercedes was waiting for us. Now that's a bit of luxury I didn't mind at all!
